in the Departments of Piano and String Studies
Applications
are invited from suitably qualified persons for appointment
to the full-time post of Tutor in the Departments of String
and Piano Studies, commencing September 2007. The appointment
would be for two years in the first instance.
Qualifications:
Licentiate, degree or diploma equivalent in strings (preferably lower strings)
with piano as a second instrument.
The post is suitable for an enthusiastic teacher who enjoys working with a wide
range of ages, abilities and levels of motivation, and who welcomes the challenge
posed by working on a small island with limited resources. Experience working
with large group string classes would be an advantage.
Duties:
These would include:
(a) a teaching workload divided between string and piano classes with some graded
examination work for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music or Trinity
Guildhall;
(b) the preparation of students for performance in in-house and end-of-term student
concerts;
(c) participation in staff recitals;
(d) assistance with string ensemble rehearsals;
(e) contribution in other areas of the appointee’s special interest and/or
department needs.
Salary:
On the existing Tutor’s scale (EC $45,087 - $51, 199) depending upon applicant’s
qualifications and experience (US $1.00 = EC $2.7169) Note: this scale is due
for revision in September 2007.
Video Submission:
Shortlisted applicants from outside St.Lucia will be required to submit an audition
video of their teaching and playing.
Post:
String Tutor and Schools’ String Programme Coordinator
Applications
are invited from suitably qualified persons for appointment
to the full-time post of String Tutor and Coordinator of the
Primary & Secondary Schools String Programme, commencing
September 2007. The appointment would be for two years in the
first instance.
Qualifications:
University degree or equivalent in Music Education with Orchestral
Strings as a primary focus. The applicant should be an upper
string player with a working knowledge of cello and double
bass. Piano
skills would be useful. Some administrative experience is essential.
The ability to arrange for mixed ability string orchestra and
some basic string instrument repair and maintenance skills would
also be an asset. This post is suitable for a versatile string
teacher who has worked with a full range of ages and abilities,
and who is well organized, hardworking and self-motivated.
Duties:
These would include:
(1) overall responsibility for the on-going development of the
string programme for primary and secondary schools in St. Lucia
as a component of the Ministry of Education’s curriculum
for music education, including the supervision of part time string
tutors working with the programme;
(2) teaching some individual and group classes for members of
the Primary and Secondary Schools’ Strings Orchestras and
the Advanced String Ensemble;
(3) building a repertoire for these string ensembles, arranging/
composing for them as necessary, and conducting these ensembles
in weekly rehearsals;
(4) planning a schedule of string performances, and responding
to requests for these groups to appear in other concerts and
events;
(5) teaching individual string students (mainly violin and viola)
at the St. Lucia School of Music;
(6) contributing in other areas of the appointee’s special
interest and/or department needs
