PROPOSED EXTENSION FOR THE SCHOOL
View
new plans by clicking on the image below
At present with the limitations of its present resources and
with a six-day week, the School is very hard pressed to meet
the
present termly demand. As most classes are taught after school
and after working hours, classroom space during these hours
is at a premium. Classes are often taught in the kitchen.
The School’s library is in a corridor. The School’s
Bursar and Administrative Secretary share a very cramped office
and storage space is much needed. There is nowhere for students
to wait for classes or to do homework while they wait other
than in a congested corridor or on benches outside. There is
no staffroom other than a small kitchen. Many open classes that
the School would like to offer cannot be held because all rooms
are fully booked. When concerts are held in the School’s
annexe, many parents have to stay outside because the performing
ensembles often take up half of the small hall. The annexe itself
is a deteriorating building which urgently needs to be replaced.
The proposed extensions to the School would serve to address
these problems and meet the School’s building requirements
for the next decade.
Phase 1 in the proposed extension to the school will link
2 present buildings with a central Administrative unit containing
the library,
office space for secretary, bursar and director offices with
additional tutorial rooms. Freeing up administrative space
in the main old
building for classroom use and thereby facilitating growth and
expansion of classes and course options at the school. Approximate
size will be 3,500 sq ft. view drawings.
Phase 2 would replace the present decaying wooden Annexe with
a new concert hall seating approximately 280 persons. This facility
will be multipurpose in concept and would have the usual concert
hall facilities including bar and refreshment area, changing
rooms and other conveniences. The new concert hall will allow
for further
class room space underneath the proposed building. Approximate
size will be 7,724 sq ft. view drawings.
As it stands the School has undertaken fundraising drives to
meet the costs of construction including its annual JAZZ FESTIVAL
RAFFLE
which has provided funding for the architectural and engineering
costs. More funds are needed.
Donations to the building project will be greatly appreciated.
